The Halcyon Days
It may come upon you slowly,
Or strike you at one time,
The days ahead are numbered,
You’re now well past your prime.
You see a fellow traveler,
He’d been invincible, to you,
A well-loved teacher and a guide,
God’s lessons he’d brought through.
Now his silence deafens,
No words his site displays,
It strikes you hard, he’s old now,
Gone are the halcyon days.
Tears well up inside you,
His life mirrors your own,
A corner must be turned now,
Let go of what you’ve known.
Let go and sell your home there,
The call’s for simplicity,
Clear out now and move on, dear,
Remove complexity.
One thing that you can count on,
This promise I’ll hold true,
Your last breath and beyond, dear,
I’ll be there loving you.
Each one who dwells on earth there,
Will someday say goodbye,
But only to the physical,
True life will never die.
The halcyon days on earth dear,
Will end, but be replaced
With the spirit life of truth there,
The halcyon days of grace.
Wipe the tears away, dear,
There’s joy, each day, as One,
Let’s get on with living,
God’s will, right now, be done.
