Evacuate!

Evacuate!

The call came to evacuate,

To leave my home and go,

I thought the fire was far away,

But this wild fire did grow!

I called on You to help me, Lord,

To show me what to do.

My kids were out of town or gone,

My dependence was on You.

I loaded up my car with stuff,

With things I need to keep,

Then headed into town to find,

A place where I could sleep.

The Red Cross and a church there,

Together, met the need,

Sheltering evacuees,

A blessing given, indeed!

I  reflect on all those others,

Who have felt disaster’s strife,

Then there’s the disasters of the heart,

Can devastate a life!

You’re there to see us through, Lord,

Best Comforter and Friend,

Guiding us to safety,

Love, and succor, without end!

Today, I’m back at home again,

The danger now has past,

How wonderful to feel such peace,

Held safe, with You, steadfast.

No matter what befalls us,

We’re never left alone,

You, Lord, are with us always,

The best love ever known!
