Mother’s Day 2022

My mother loved me dearly,

I felt her love each day,

She cherished me, she taught me,

The laws, the Jewish way.

Steeped in that tradition,

My mother expected me,

To follow all the rules there,

But I knew differently.

I knew that God our Father,

Had love for all to share,

Judged not if one was worthy,

Loved all His children, there.

My mother wondered, questioned,

Why her son would disobey,

Long-held, deep, traditions,

To teach a different way.

She never disavowed me,

Thought me not off base, nor ill,

Others thought I’d lost my mind,

But Mother loved me still.

I’m telling you these things now,

Because today’s a day,

When we honor mothers,

Our love, to them, display.

If your childhood was painful,

A rough and troubled start,

I’ll love you like no other,

I’ll heal your broken heart.

Love your mother, dear one,

She, too, needs love from you,

She, too, wants that connection,

Let your love shine through.

In closing let me tell you,

I love you as my own,

I will never leave you,

You are not alone.
