It May Take a While

If you are a parent of a grown child, you may have difficulty in your relationship with this one.  You may have felt that your careful upbringing and the love you gave has been spurned or taken for granted, or has not wrought the closeness that you had imagined would be there.

Distancing is a somewhat common occurrence in the parent/child relationships of today. Young adults do need to chart their own path and this could be vastly different from what you had wanted or expected. Adult children may have a different take on the parenting they received from you and may harbor long held feelings of injustice or neglect. If you were divorced, this, too, may have had shattering effects held deeply by your child.  Many parents would be surprised at what their children actually thought of/felt  about their upbringing.

This message is not about bringing guilt or blame to anyone, either parent of child. This message is how to heal the divide and bring closeness back to the relationship, which is usually deeply desired by parents and adult children.

I would say that as in most areas of life, persistence is required. It may take a while to build anew the ‘now’ relationship that is different from what you had in the past. Accepting where each one is at ‘now’ is key here. Ideally, there should be acknowledgment of unloving behavior and forgiveness asked for from parents and children. Recognizing the hurt you may have cause is important for children to hear so they can eventually heal. Likewise, children need to own up to their unloving behavior for parents to forgive,  but once that’s happened, it’s time to move on.

Dear one, whether parent or child, I am with you to guide you through the relationship-building that you are involved in. Let your persistence be with Me, as you stay with the joined mindset always. You see, I know/see the whole picture there, what has gone before and where you are and where your child is . I see what right words/right actions  to help you say and do and what will begin to bridge the gap that is keeping you apart.  It may take awhile, dear one, or it may happen sooner than you think. Stay with Me and  let the power of living love lead the way in this.  Stay with Me and know that you are never alone. I love you dearly, and together, we will heal the divide you have with your children or others there.  In truth we are One family, One movement, One love. We are ONE!

The Gift of Relationship

There is much, this day, to be thankful for,

Much to appreciate,

One thing stands out above the rest,

It’s that You and I relate.

Relating, Lord, to You, there,

My loneliness is gone,

You fill me up, complete me,

My heart is filled with song.

With You, I cease my searching,

I long for nothing more,

My focus is on You, Lord,

It’s You, I do adore.

You tell me we are One, there,

The One includes the All,

The love we share must reach out,

Must answer to God’s call.

It’s not enough to savor,

A private love, with You,

God’s living love must reach out,

Relate to All, it’s true.

Inclusiveness is called for,

So let us spread this love,

It is God’s very meaning,

For All to partake of.

Sharing will not take away,

Nor weaken what we know,

Will not intrude on what we have,

Will dampen not the glow.

Giving is receiving,

Let us not forget,

We give to whom we really are,

As One, our needs are met.

The gift of real relationship,

Which we now have this day,

Will ‘waken Us to Oneness,

God's love will light the way!

In closing I will tell you,

So oft’ repeated there,

I am with you, always,

My love I fully share.
